Once the winter weather is blustery, sometimes it is simply too chilly to move outside and play. If your little one is a bit restless and bored because of being cooped up indoors, a few hours of creating craft projects could be the perfect way to spend a little while. You’ll be able to keep the child entertained and happy for several hours using some affordable materials that you are able to find at home. In case your youngster complains that she or he does not have anything fun to work on, then you can take out some inexpensive and simple craft projects.

Make Yourself an Interior Blizzard

Kids of all ages can have  fun creating a variety of folded paper snowflakes using inexpensive white printer paper and safety scissors. As a matter of fact, if you haven’t got any white paper you can even make your snowflakes using old newspaper. You can make your paper snowflakes with an endless selection of shapes, sizes, and designs, exactly like real snowflakes.

To make one of these paper snowflakes, you start using a square piece of paper. Fold the paper in half diagonally, bringing one of the bottom corners up to meet the opposite corner on the top of the square. Your paper square will now resemble a large triangle. Make a smaller triangle by folding this triangle in half. Lay this small triangle on the table, having the tip pointing down. Now you will fold one side of the triangle over, then fold the opposite side of your triangle over, and you’ll get a shape one third of the size of the first small triangle having a “V” shape at the top. Use your scissors to take the “V” shape off, which will make up the six-sided outline for the snowflake. Then, use the scissors to cut small notches and shapes into the two side edges. If desired, you can also take off the tip of your triangle, thus creating a hole in the center of the snowflake. When done, unfold to see your unique snowflake shape. If you make enough snowflakes, you can tape them on all of your windows to produce an indoor blizzard visible from outside your house. Another way to use just a couple of snowflakes is to glue them onto some blue paper and display them in silver photo frames and use them as indoor decorations.

Cotton Ball Snowmen

If it’s far too cold to go outside to make a snowman, or maybe you do not have any snow, you can make one inside using cotton balls. You simply need some white cotton balls, and a few accessories to decorate with, like small beads, pipe cleaners, and construction paper. Begin by fluffing up several individual cotton balls so you can roll them together into a larger ball. Glue the ball to a sheet of white construction paper. Then, create two more balls, each just a little smaller compared to the last one. Use craft glue to fasten the balls in a snowman shape. You can glue on small bead eyes, mouth and buttons. You can use some construction paper or perhaps a little bit of orange pipe cleaner as a nose, and a piece of yarn or a striped pipe cleaner will make a great scarf. Take a few photographs of the cotton ball snowman when you are done, since they can be charming decorations when displayed in white 5×7 picture frames.
